Muztagh Ata is the mountain located in Pamir range in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. The altitude of the peak is 7546 m., but due to the gentle western slope and relatively dry weather in the region, it is one of the easiest peaks above seven-thousand meters. In the last few years it became very popular destination for ski mountaineers from the whole world.

Climb Muztagh Ata with Asia Outdoor Club and get a lot of impressions from the greatness of Chinese Pamir mountains.

Day 1 (July 7)Arrival in Bishkek. City tour and overnight in hotel.

Arrival to Manas International airport. You will be met by representative of Asia Outdoor Club. Transfer to the hotel. After a rest we will have a city tour in Bishkek. Night in a hotel.

Day 2 (July 8)Drive Bishkek - Balykchy - Naryn (360 km., 5-6 hrs.)

After breakfast the driver will take you from the hotel and transfer to Naryn via Balykchy town. You will have the possibility to watch all beauty of Kyrgyz mountain ranges and whole nature. After arrival to Naryn the accommodation in a hotel.

Day 3 (July 9)Transfer Naryn - Kashgar (350 km., 8-9 hrs.) through Torugart Pass

After the breakfast we’ll have a drive to one of the highest passes of Kyrgyz Republic – Torugart Pass (5108 m.). After passing the border you’ll be met by Chinese guide and driver and continue your drive to Kashgar. After an amazing road through mountain passes you will arrive to the city. Accommodation in a hotel and rest after a long ride.

Day 4 (July 10)Kashgar

Today we will have a free day in Kashgar. You will have a time to buy everything you need for the expedition.

Optionally: you can make a city tour in the ancient Kashgar city.

Day 5 (July 11)Transfer Kashgar - Idara (200 km., 5-6 hrs.)

After breakfast you will have a drive to Idara – the small village under Muztagh Ata, located just in 1 day trekking to Muztagh Ata Base Camp.

Day 6 (July 12)Idara - Muztagh Ata Base Camp (4450 m.)

After breakfast start the trekking to Muztagh Ata BC (4450 m.). You will have the chance to put your luggage on camels and go on foot to Base Camp.

Days 7-8 (July 13-14)Acclimatization in Base Camp

As Camp 1 is located on the high altitude area (higher than 5000 m.) you will need a few days to prepare your organism for the altitude. We highly recommend to spend at least 2 days in the Base Camp area for hiking and to get good acclimatization.

Day 9 (July 15)Acclimatization ascent to Camp 1 (5350 m.)

Proper acclimatization is one of the main guarantees of your success in the ascent to any high altitude mountain. Today you’ll hike to Camp 1 (5350 m.) and will have a night on the higher altitude.

Day 10 (July 16)Return to Base Camp (4450 m.)

After the night in Camp 1 you’ll go back to Base Camp to fix the acclimatization process. Rest in Base Camp and preparation for tomorrow climbing.

Day 11 (July 17)Base Camp - Camp 1 (5350 m.)

Early morning you will start you re-ascent to Camp 1 (5350 m.). Night in Camp 1.

Day 12 (July 18)Camp 1 (5350 m.) - Camp 2 (6200 m.)

In the morning you start your ascent to Camp 2 (6200 m.). Night in Camp 2.

Day 13 (July 19)Camp 2 (6200 m.) - Camp 3 (6800 m.)

Today you will have a climbing to Camp 3 (6800 m.). After installing your tent, the rest in the camp. Night in Camp 3.

Day 14 (July 20)Descend to Base Camp (4450 m.)

Early breakfast. Start at 4 A.M. Moving in a rope-team. Rest, drinking hot tea, cooking by yourself in Camp 2.

Day 15 (July 21)Rest day in Base Camp.

Rest day in Base Camp.

Day 16 (July 22)Base Camp - Camp 1.

Today you climb the familiar path to Camp 1.

Day 17 (July 23)Camp 1 - Camp 2.

In the morning start your climb to Camp 2.

Day 18 (July 24)Camp 2 - Camp 3.

Ascent to Camp 3.

Day 19 (July 25)Muztagh Ata summit (7546 m.) and descend to Camp 2 (6200 m.)

Today is the most important day of the whole expedition – the summit attempt. In the early morning you will start your ascent to the top of Muztagh Ata (7546 m.). After the summiting you will need to return to Camp 2 (6200 m.).

Day 20 (July 26)Camp 2 - Base Camp.

Descent to Base Camp. Enjoy a well-deserved rest!

Days 21-22 (July 27-28)Reserve days in case of bad weather.

Day 23 (July 29)Base Camp - Kashgar.

Trekking back to Idara village and getting your transport to Kashgar.

Day 24 (July 30)Kashgar - Torugart Pass - Naryn.

After a long drive we will come back to Naryn. Rest in the hotel.

Day 25 (July 31)Naryn - Bishkek.

Drive back to Bishkek.

Day 26 (August 1)Flight back home.

In the morning the driver will take you to Manas International airport. Flight back home.

Tour leader of the expedition (deals with organizational issues and helps the group; if you need a mountain guide, then you need to book it separately)

The services of a mountain guide and porters for ascending/descending.

Additional information

About Insurance

It is advisable for each participant of the expedition to Muztagh-Ata to take out an insurance policy. First of all, it will help you in case of an incident during your trip.
 
Basic insurance requirements below:
1. the insurance assistance company must not be a GLOBAL VOYAGER.
2. insurance must include “ALPINISM” (above 7000 m.)
3. host country must be indicated: China (or People’s Republic of China – PRC)
4. the total amount of coverage of the policy is NOT LESS than 30,000 USD
5. the dates of the insurance policy must coincide with the dates of the expedition
6. the insurance policy must cover the “transportation of the injured”. The amount of transportation coverage have to be at least 20,000 USD.
